A tale of two wheels and a CAST!

I knew this day was coming but I did not know that it would be so close on the heels of triumph. Within a month managed to get my Driving license, drive 30 kms a day and crash land from the bike. Yes, Humpty Dumpty Had a Great Fall.

So Dear Me was getting to work. As always  I focussed on looking the part and being a big day et al, spent an extra few minutes on the looks department. Eyes lined with khol, hair fragrant from shampoo, lips shimmering with gloss, cheeks powdered up and a trail of my perfume following me.

If Dreams can be linked to the subconcious' reaction to the events of the day, the one I had was no dream. It was my conscious mind trying to fill in the gaps.

The roads I crossed, the route I took, the signals I stopped at, everything floated across my eyes. But nothing explained the strange faces peering in to my face or the robotic manner in which I spelt out address and contact details. Soon a familiar face zoomed in. It was my husband. Some pain, some sleep, lots of rambling and vague recollection of people and happenings.

I had fallen from my bike, I was told. It had skid in the rain. That explained why my clothes were wet. My wrist looked different and was tied in gauze. A drip line was running to my other hand. Dazed and confused, I meekly lay still.

By evening I had been x-rayed and dressed in surgical attire. I welcomed the anaesthesia so as to be rid of the horrible pain. I woke sometime later to find the pain gone and my right hand in a hard and sturdy cast.

My mind was devoid of any thoughts. I had been visited by various people and had seen inaudible gasps and expressions of shock on their face. I was only overcome with curiosity when I finally got to analyse myself in front of a mirror.

As I was getting discharged from the hospital and finally heading home, happened to drive past the place where I had fallen. Piecing together my memory and conversations I could somehow finally know what had happened.

Apparently I had applied a brake to avoid a vehicle and unable to balance dropped my bike and fallen thereafter. I had landed on my right side of the body and lost conscious as soon as I had touched the ground. My weight, gravity and the force of the fall was such that I had fractured my Right Wrist. Further the right side of my body bore all the brunt and swelled up in protest, end result I got a big fat black eye and cheeks nearly the size of my bums.

It has been a week now and I have slowly recovered from the shock of it all. The bones will heal with time and the black eye will return to normal. My bike that suffered no scratches, will be off the road for some time and probably make hesitate before taking the usual route. After mastering eating, bathing, dressing and typing with my left hand, maybe I'll become Ambidextrous. Most of all, hope I'll become stronger and more appreciative of the Gift of Life.

p.s.Thanks to all those who helped me while I lay passed out on the Road. Thanks to everyone's wishes and prayers.
